Privacy Policy
Who we are
ATLAS ("we", "us") is an actuarial exam study platform run by John Fiester & Jeremy Bernier. It includes the website at study-atlas.com and the ATLAS iOS app (together, the "Services"). Questions about this policy go to study.atlas.program@gmail.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash, never in plain text.
- Profile choices: your avatar color and icon.
- Things you create: chapter notes, your own flashcards (My Deck), study schedule settings, forum questions, replies and reactions, news comments and likes, and roadmap votes.
- Messages to us: anything you send to our support email.
Information created as you study
- Study progress: chapters you've read, flashcard ratings and review dates, practice problems solved, schedule tasks completed, story mode levels, skill XP, badges and your study streak.
- Exam access: which exams you can use, the access tier, and start and end dates, plus any promo code you redeem.
- Notifications and email records: in-app notifications (for example, a reply to your forum post) and a log of service emails we've sent you, such as password resets.
What we don't collect
We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking tools on the website or in the app. We don't collect your location, contacts, photos or health data. We don't currently take payments, so we hold no payment card details. If we add paid checkout, payments will be handled by a payment processor and we'll update this policy.
The ATLAS iOS app
The app signs in with your ATLAS account and talks only to study-atlas.com. It reads your exams, flashcards and progress, and it saves your flashcard ratings to your account, the same as the website does. Your sign-in token is kept in the iPhone's secure keychain.
The app has no analytics, crash reporting or advertising SDKs, and it doesn't track you across other apps or websites. Pages you open from the app (for example the Manual) open in Safari and are covered by this same policy.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and sign you in on the website and in the app.
- To show your content, save your progress, and keep it in sync between the website and the app.
- To work out your skills, streaks and badges.
- To send service emails, such as password resets and account notices.
- To show your name, avatar and posts to other students in the forum and comments.
- To answer support requests, fix problems, and protect the Services (for example by rate-limiting sign-in attempts).
We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising or profiling.
What other people can see
Forum questions, replies, reactions and news comments are visible to other signed-in students, along with your name and avatar. Daily Games leaderboards show other signed-in students your first name, last initial, avatar and puzzle results (such as time, moves or accuracy). You can turn this off under Privacy on your profile. Everything else (your progress, notes, My Deck cards, exam access and email address) is private to your account and to ATLAS administrators, who can see account and access details to run the service.
Service providers
We use a few companies to run ATLAS. They process data only on our behalf and only to provide their service:
- Neon hosts our database (in the United States).
- Our web hosting provider serves the website and the app's API.
- Resend delivers our service emails.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of ATLAS and its users.
Cookies and local storage
The website uses only the cookies it needs to keep you signed in and protect your session. It also stores a few display preferences in your browser's local storage (for example, your avatar color), plus your Daily Games progress and streaks. There are no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from your profile page on the website, or from the Profile tab in the iOS app. Deletion is immediate and permanent: it removes your account and everything linked to it (progress, notes, My Deck cards, badges, forum posts and comments, exam access, and our log of emails sent to you). You can also ask us to do it by emailing study.atlas.program@gmail.com from the address on your account.
Deleting your account doesn't refund any exam access or subscription you've paid for.
You can also email us to get a copy of your information or to correct it. You can change your avatar on your profile page.
Security
Connections to the website and the app are encrypted with HTTPS, passwords are hashed, and the app keeps your sign-in token in the iOS keychain. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use elsewhere, and tell us right away if you think your account has been compromised.
Children
ATLAS is built for actuarial students and professionals. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email study.atlas.program@gmail.com and we'll delete it.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we'll let you know by email or with a notice on the site. Questions or requests: study.atlas.program@gmail.com.
